Dr. Smaragda Sotiraki

Dr Smaragda Sotiraki is a Research Director and leads a research group on Parasitology and Parasitic diseases at the Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) of the Hellenic Agricultural Research Organization (ELGO-DIMITRA) and focuses her R&D activities on epidemiology of parasitic infections, integrated disease management in livestock (including antiparasitic treatments and alternatives solutions) and spread of parasitic zoonoses. Since 2020 she is also acting as the Deputy Director of the VRI ELGO-DIMITRA.
She holds a Degree in Veterinary Medicine and a Doctorate in Veterinary Parasitology, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and conducted post-doctoral research for over 2 years at the Veterinary School in Denmark.
She is a de facto member of the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC) where she is also a member of the Board, elected Secretary for the period 2018-2021 and Vice-President for the period 2021-2024.
Dr Sotiraki has over 20 years R&D and teaching experience in veterinary parasitology and significant managerial experience in research projects having participated in more than 50 major R&D programmes at National and International level. As a result of her research activities, she has published more than 120 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals (SCI) (h factor 29).
