Annemarie Leliveld is working as an oncological urologist at the UMC Groningen since 2005. She obtained her PhD on urothelial cell carcinoma of the bladder and upper urinary tract. And since 2019, co-initiator of the bladder cancer center in Northern Netherlands, where new patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive and muscle-invasive bladder cancer are evaluated in a multidisciplinary way.
As an oncological urologist, she performs both outpatient invasive examinations and operations in the operating room on urological patients. She also participate in multidisciplinary surgery of the pelvis. The amount of waste released, every day, is not only shocking but also sickening. This has been the main reason to take the lead in the process towards a more circular operating theater in the UMCG (but also nationally) by working together with many other healthcare employees involved. Within the UMCG she is active in the Green Team of the OR, has founded the Green Team for the endoscopy center and intervention center, as well as the national working group the Green Urologist. She is a board member of the national network of Landelijk Netwerk de Groene OR. The aim of this project is to accelerate the sustainability of all care processes in and around the OR by sharing best practices. She also regularly gives lectures to colleagues in the country. She considers collaboration, gathering and sharing knowledge and communicating extensively about circular working to be of the utmost importance.
